UN Secretary General Arrives In Russia for BRICS Summit

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Kazan to take part in the BRICS Summit, a turning point in international diplomacy. Guterres was greeted at Kazan International Airport by Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin, Tatarstan’s parliament said.

During the summit, Guterres will hold a number of high-profile one-on-one meetings with the BRICS leaders to discuss critical global issues, most notably about the conflict in the Gaza Strip, his spokesperson said.

Farhan Haq, the UN spokesman, said Guterres “certainly” will discuss the conflict in Gaza in these meetings. He refused to name the names of the leaders he is going to meet, saying that a number of bilateral meetings with participants of the summit is planned.

The ongoing Summit that is taking place in Kazan, Russia, brings together the heads of five influential emerging economies that include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Jointly, they are going to address pressing political, economic, and social problems affecting BRICS and the global community.

Guterres’ presence gives meaning to the BRICS Summit in its global significance.
