Cameroon’s cultural economy boosted by art and cultural centers

Date:

Cameroon’s Ministry of Arts and Culture has established 26 artistic and cultural centers, including a theater arts center, to help structure and develop the sub-sector while creating a cultural economy. The centers serve as an interface between the government and actors, with the theater arts pole responsible for a range of tasks, including the creation of professional associations for theater, storytelling, and poetry.

Creating a Federated Network

The director of arts development and promotion at Minac, Armand Abanda Maye, stated that the theater department must be in compliance with county, department, and regional laws governing companies and unions. Maye also emphasized the need to create a federation to represent the discipline at both the national and international levels.

Promoting Self-Expression and Learning

The theater arts pole has committed to developing programs that promote learning, self-expression, and artistic activity. These programs are designed to meet the expectations of participants and help the government formulate a development plan for the sector. As part of Cameroon’s national development strategy, the arts and culture sub-sector aims to serve industry, ensuring that artists have the means to sustain their art.
Cameroon’s Ministry of Arts and Culture has recognized the importance of supporting the arts and culture sub-sector in the country.

The establishment of 26 artistic and cultural centers, including the theater arts center, is an important step towards achieving this goal. By creating a federated network and developing programs that promote learning, self-expression, and artistic activity, the centers can help actors in the sub-sector to structure and develop their art, while contributing to the cultural economy. The government’s commitment to the arts and culture sub-sector underscores the important role it plays in Cameroon’s overall development strategy. The establishment of artistic and cultural centers in Cameroon, including a theater arts pole, is a positive step in promoting the country’s arts and culture sub-sector and supporting its development.
