British Airways Faces Delays and Disruptions Due to ‘Technical Issue’

Date:

London (Brics24) – British Airways faced a technical failure on Monday that caused several hours of flight delays and disruptions across Europe.

Reports on social media highlighted flight delays, while the airline’s website was down for over an hour. A spokesperson for British Airways confirmed that the airline had encountered a “technical issue affecting some of our systems,” leading to the disruptions.

“We experienced a technical issue earlier this evening that caused some delays. Our teams worked hard to resolve the issue, and we have apologized to customers for the inconvenience,” the spokesperson said, assuring passengers that efforts were made to ensure they reached their destinations as planned.

Heathrow Airport, British Airways’ main hub in London, also confirmed that the technical issue had been resolved and said it was working to assist impacted passengers. “The technical issue affecting British Airways has now been resolved. Our teams are on hand to support passengers and help them continue their journeys as swiftly as possible,” a Heathrow spokesperson told CNN.

This incident adds to British Airways’ history of technical disruptions. In 2019, the airline experienced a major computer systems failure that led to the cancellation of over 100 flights and delays for hundreds more. At that time, passengers at Heathrow and Gatwick airports faced significant disruptions due to a partial crash of the airline’s check-in and flight systems.

A spokesperson from Gatwick Airport, another major hub for the airline, stated that while British Airways faced a “short-term issue,” no major disruptions were caused at the airport.
