Without Animal Testing: Modern cell culture laboratory opened in Ukraine

Date:

Zaporizhzhia State University of Medicine and Pharmacy has opened a modern cell culture laboratory, equipped with the latest technology to allow for the study of pathological processes at the molecular cellular level without the use of laboratory animals.

The laboratory, built to meet global bioethical standards, includes unique microscopes from Carl Zeiss, incubators for growing cell cultures, low-temperature freezers for storing cells, and laminar flow boxes for personal protection.

Modernizing Science

This laboratory will be used by researchers from different fields such as dentistry, pharmacology, histology, anatomy, biology, and dermatology. This facility is very important because no medical, biological, or pharmacological research in the world is possible without the cell culture stage.

Promoting Advances in Medicine

The laboratory will be working with both experimental and clinical materials, as well as commercial cells, to study the regenerative potential of cell therapy in orthopedics and traumatology. The researchers will evaluate how different regulatory factors affect cells and determine their ability to grow tissue through reproduction. This data and knowledge will help the doctors to accelerate the treatment, wound healing, engraftment, and overall recovery of patients.

For example, during knee replacement surgery, the factor of engraftment and effective healing is critical. The cell research should provide valuable clues for specialists to determine which drugs can speed up the healing process. Animal research is prohibited at the preclinical screening stage, and live cells are grown in the laboratory and used to model various pathological conditions that people have. Researchers will observe how cells change under the influence of different treatments.

The new cell culture laboratory at Zaporizhzhia State University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a significant step forward in medical research. This cutting-edge facility is equipped with the latest technology, enabling scientists from various specializations to study pathological processes at the cellular level. Their work will help doctors to accelerate the treatment and recovery of patients, making a meaningful difference in the lives of people.
