The World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) 2024, organized by the Qatar Foundation, commenced on November 13 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The biennial summit, held under the theme “Humanizing Health: Conflict, Equity, and Resilience”, focused on evidence-based solutions to pressing global health challenges, particularly in conflict-affected regions.
The event brought together over 3,000 global health professionals, policymakers, and researchers to discuss critical issues such as the deliberate targeting of healthcare facilities, the ethical implications of AI in healthcare, and antimicrobial resistance.

- Sheikha Moza bint Nasser’s Opening Remarks: Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, emphasized the devastating impact of conflict on the healthcare sector. “This year has been the bloodiest ever for the health sector,” she shared via Instagram, drawing attention to attacks on healthcare infrastructure and personnel in war zones.

- Lord Ara Darzi of Denham, Executive Chair of WISH, condemned the destruction of healthcare infrastructure, describing attacks on healthcare workers as indefensible.
- Christos Christou, President of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), highlighted the normalization of violence against healthcare professionals, with a special mention of the challenges faced in Gaza.
- Collaborations and Research Initiatives: The summit featured a session on “Protecting Health in Armed Conflict,” co-hosted with WHO, alongside discussions on antimicrobial resistance and the role of AI in healthcare ethics. Three research projects developed in partnership with WHO aim to translate findings into actionable solutions for conflict-affected regions.
