Ukrposhta, the national postal operator of Ukraine, has announced the launch of its first automated parcel sorting line. The line was developed by UISLabs, a Ukrainian developer, and features components manufactured by ten different industrial enterprises in Ukraine, including Azovstal.
The new conveyor system, which has 64 directions, has increased the speed of processing small parcels from 400 pieces per hour to 8,000, an eight-fold increase. This means that only one lane can sort over 150,000 parcels per day. The new system has not only increased the speed but also improved the accuracy of sorting, which will benefit millions of customers who use Ukrposhta’s postal services.
Future Plans
According to Ihor Smelyansky, the CEO of Ukrposhta, the company plans to install four or five more new lines this year and fully switch to an automated sorting mode throughout the country in the first half of 2024. This means that customers can expect faster and more accurate delivery of their parcels, which will enhance their overall experience of using Ukrposhta’s services.
The development of the automated parcel sorting line was delayed during the war because international companies were not ready to supply Ukraine. However, this gave Ukrainian developers the opportunity to step up and showcase their potencial. The success of this project demonstrates that Ukraine has the capabilities to develop world-class technological solutions.
Сommitment to innovation
Ukrposhta’s investment in the automated parcel sorting line underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and customer service. By investing in technology, Ukrposhta aims to meet the changing needs of its customers and to stay ahead of its competitors.
“Thanks to the entire team that worked almost around the clock on this project! We are celebrating a little and do not relax, because the goal of 100% digitalization of Ukraine and processes at Ukrposhta is not off the agenda” Ihor Smelyansky, CEO of Ukrposhta, said.
Ukrposhta purchased the automated parcel sorting line at its own expense following a transparent tender process. This is in line with Ukrposhta’s commitment to transparency and accountability in all of its operations.
