Ukrainian talent and culture showcased in Eurovision 2023 grand final

Date:

The grand final of Eurovision 2023 showcased the music of Ukraine, with performances by the Kalush Orchestra and former Ukrainian contestants. The opening act of the international contest was “Voices Of A New Generation,” a performance from last year’s winners that included the folk rap group’s hit song Stefania. Kalush Orchestra was joined on stage by a troupe of drummers, with members of the group standing on top of a giant open palm while pyrotechnics lit up the auditorium.

Ukrainian talent shines

The final also featured recognisable Eurovision acts from previous years, including Ukrainian performers Go_A, who represented their country in 2021. Past acts Tina Karol, Verka Serduchka, and Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala were also performing in between the contestants taking part in the flag parade. Ukraine entrant Tvorchi came on stage to perform Heart Of Steel, and the audience waved Ukrainian flags. The electronic duo, comprising producer Andrii Hutsuliak and vocalist Jimoh Kehinde also performed at the event.

Honoring Ukrainian culture

Despite being unable to host the contest last year, Ukraine won the competition in 2022, and the executive supervisor of Eurovision for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), Martin Osterdahl, expressed gratitude to the BBC and Public Broadcasting Company of Ukraine (UA:PBC) for their “incredible work and commitment to creating a truly historic event.” Osterdahl also noted that the contest aimed to honor Ukraine’s 2022 victory, and the close collaboration between the two broadcasters ensured that Ukrainian culture was at the forefront of the 2023 event.

Overall, the grand final of Eurovision 2023 demonstrated Ukrainian talent and culture, with performances that showcased the country’s rich and diverse musical landscape, with past and present Eurovision participants coming together to create a memorable show. The show was a testament to the power of music to bring people together and showcase the best of a nation.
