Ukrainian Fashion Brands: Combining tradition with modernity

Date:

Ukrainian fashion brands are gaining popularity worldwide by implementing traditional Ukrainian elements into their products.

Chichka, based in Lviv, creates Hutsul-themed products including jewelry, scarves, and ceramics. The founders’ mission is to remind Ukrainians of their cultural heritage through their products. The brand’s services include digital try-ons through the camera of your smartphone.

Edere Editions, founded by designer Valeria Amirova, combines traditional arts and crafts with contemporary design to create high-quality textile products such as blankets, scarves, and balaclavas. The brand uses fine materials like merino wool and cotton and sells its products in limited quantities.

Gunia Project, another Lviv-based brand, sells ceramics, blown glass, jewelry, accessories, and clothing. Their products are unique and sold in stores across Ukraine, as well as the USA, Canada, China, and Europe. Their products are owned by celebrities such as Pope Francis, Lily Collins, and May Musk.

Gushka, a social business founded in 2017, creates woolen products from Ukrainian sheep grazing on the Carpathian Mountains. Their products include carpets, lizhnyks, pillows, and furniture, made without any synthetic impurities. The brand was created to support the Didova Khatchyna project, a creative space in the mountains that aims to restore respect for the ancient craft of weaving and promote Ukrainian products.

Authentic Hutsul handmade art is the focus of Hutsul Authentica, a family-owned shop and workshop that creates decorative items made of wood and artistic painting. Their products include the Trinity Candlestick, handmade icons on glass, and sets of Christmas and Easter decorations. The Boruky family is passionate about promoting traditional Ukrainian products and traditions.

Bohdan Petrychuk, a collector and researcher of Hutsul clothing, has over 200 traditional shirts in his collection. He recreates elements of the costumes by hand and conducts excursions and master classes in his improvised museum in Babyn.

Vse Zapleteno, founded by folklorist Vasylyna Tkachuk, creates traditional wicker belts made from natural materials. The brand aims to introduce traditional Ukrainian clothing and reconstruct old clothes.

These brands aim to promote Ukrainian culture and heritage through their products, creating unique and environmentally friendly items that are appreciated by people worldwide. They are keeping traditional Ukrainian crafting methods alive while adding a contemporary twist. Chichka even offers digital try-ons for their products through the camera of your smartphone. These brands serve as a testament to the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Ukraine.
