Tanzanian government to install free Wi-Fi networks in public places

Date:

The Tanzanian government has reaffirmed its commitment to installing free Wi-Fi networks in public places across the country. The Deputy Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Engineer Kundo Mathew, stated during Tuesday’s Question and Answers session in Parliament that the aim of the initiative is to boost the usage of information and communication technology (ICT) in Tanzania.

Government efforts to install Wi-Fi networks

In response to a question from Special Seat MP, Janeth Mahawanga, regarding the government’s efforts to install Wi-Fi networks, Mr Kundo said that until Tuesday, the government had installed the services at six public places, including Tabora Market, Nanenane Bus Stand in Dodoma, Buhongwa in Mwanza, Kiembe Samaki in Unguja, and the University of Dodoma.

More areas to be connected

The Deputy Minister also stated that more areas are set to be connected depending on the availability of funds. The Tanzanian government’s commitment to increasing access to Wi-Fi networks in public places is a positive development, as it will provide citizens with greater access to information and communication technology, which is increasingly essential in today’s world.

Moreover, access to free Wi-Fi networks in public places will provide opportunities for individuals and businesses to connect to the internet, engage in online learning, and access information and resources that can contribute to personal and professional development.

In addition, this initiative has the potential to attract more tourists to Tanzania, as travelers often prioritize destinations with reliable and accessible Wi-Fi networks. This could have positive implications for the country’s tourism industry, which is a vital source of revenue for Tanzania’s economy.
