On October 6 in Luxembourg started “CinEast”. This is one of the largest annual film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe since 2008 and this year celebrates the 15 th anniversary.
As a sign of solidarity with the victims of the war in Ukraine and with the Ukrainian community in Luxembourg, CinEast prepared a special Ukrainian program to emphasize the importance of the Ukrainian cinema and awareness of the situation in Ukraine. The special Ukrainian program includes not only the demonstration of films, but also photo exhibitions, concerts, charitable project. Within the framework of CinEast4Ukraine, part of the ticket purchase amount will be used to purchase an ambulance card for war victims in Ukraine.
“Today it is extremely important to strengthen against russia and cultural sanctions, and to work harder to suspend cooperation with Russian artists. I am grateful that a large part of the world cinema community is boycotting Russian cinema and film industry. Ukrainian cinema, on the contrary, despite the war test, is represented on almost every international platform. It is developing and becoming more accessible to the international audience. Film art has a global impact. Cinema helps to highlight the true facts about the current war in Europe, the role of Ukrainians, who have become a shield of Europe from the forces of evil. Despite the terrible context of the war, Ukraine is rightly returning to the European cultural space, to which it belongs mentally and historically by its nature and sense,” said Oleksandr Tkachenko, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, during a video call to the participants of the event.
The festival is an important event in the life of European countries. It includes film directors, musicians, cultural figures from 21 countries of the Central-Eastern region (Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia. Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine). The highest evaluation of the contest is the Grand Prix of the International Jury.
During 18 days of the festival about 50-65 full-length and 30 short-length artistic, documentary and animation films will be presented, will be held more than 100 shows in dozens of cinemas of Luxembourg and other cities.
