Tanzania and Comoros to Collaborate in Advancing ICT Development

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is poised to collaborate with the Comoros National Agency for Digital Development (ANADEN) to foster advancements in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This promising partnership emerged during a skills exchange meeting held in Dar es Salaam.

Strengthening Ties Through ICT Collaboration

During the meeting, the Ambassador of the Union of the Comoros in Tanzania, Mr. Said Yakubu, and the Director General of ANADEN, Mr. Said Muoinuo Ahamada, expressed their admiration for Tanzania’s remarkable progress in the ICT sector.

Representing TCRA Director General Dr. Jabiri Bakari, Engineer Mwesigwa Felician, the Director of Industrial Affairs, welcomed the Comoros delegation and commended their decision to use Tanzania as a learning platform for ICT advancements.

Showcasing Tanzania’s ICT Achievements

Engineer Felician highlighted Tanzania’s accomplishments, such as:

  • Establishment of a National Data Centre.
  • Mobile money services embraced by over 90% of the population, with 60.8 million registered SIM cards as of September 2024.
  • Ranking as the leading nation in East and Central Africa for cybersecurity, as noted in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Global Cyber Security Index.

These milestones demonstrate Tanzania’s commitment to technological innovation and its growing influence in the regional ICT landscape.

Learning from Tanzania’s Success

Director General of ANADEN, Mr. Ahamada, emphasized that the visit aimed to explore best practices and learn from Tanzania’s expertise in developing critical ICT systems. These include establishing e-Government platforms, a national domain registry, and a national data centre.

“These initiatives are essential for fostering internet usage and enhancing digital services in both government and private sector operations,” Mr. Ahamada said.

This collaboration marks a step toward strengthening ICT capabilities in the Union of the Comoros while reinforcing Tanzania’s position as a leader in digital transformation.
