Saudi Arabia: India’s Mundra Port linked to Jeddah through a new Red Sea shipping route

Date:

Saudi Arabia’s Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has introduced a new shipping service connecting Jeddah Islamic Port with India’s Mundra Port, aimed at strengthening maritime trade ties and improving logistics efficiency between the two countries.

New SRS service links three key trade hubs

The newly introduced “SRS” shipping service will connect Jeddah Islamic Port with Mundra Port in India and the Port of Djibouti in East Africa.

The route will be operated with a carrying capacity of up to 2,144 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), significantly adding to container movement capability across the corridor.

Boost to supply chains and Red Sea trade

According to Mawani, the new service is expected to improve supply chain efficiency and facilitate smoother trade flows across the Red Sea, one of the world’s busiest maritime routes.

The initiative is also aimed at enhancing Saudi Arabia’s global logistics performance and supporting the growth of national exports.

Part of broader logistics transformation plan

The move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s National Transport and Logistics Strategy, which aims to position the Kingdom as a global logistics hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Officials said the addition of such services strengthens the Kingdom’s ambition to become a central node in international trade routes, improving its standing in global logistics competitiveness rankings.
