Qatar Museums (QM) has launched a new initiative to bring the nation’s rich cultural heritage to passengers flying with Qatar Airways. The Qatar Museums Channel, now part of the Oryx One entertainment system, offers a diverse array of audio and visual content showcasing Qatar’s art and culture.
The channel includes “The Power of Culture” podcast, hosted by Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums. In the podcast, Sheikha Al Mayassa engages in insightful conversations with prominent figures in the arts and culture sectors. One notable episode features a discussion with Fatma Al Remaihi, CEO of the Doha Film Institute, focusing on the institute’s role in nurturing regional filmmakers and the educational power of film.
Other programs available on the channel include the “Akilna” and “Treasures of Islamic Art” series, as well as the animated “Hazawy” show, which delves into Qatar’s folklore traditions. The channel also provides video tours of Qatar’s museums and galleries, offering a unique opportunity for travelers to explore the country’s cultural landscape.
Mohammed Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, expressed pride in this collaboration with Qatar Airways, noting that it serves as a digital bridge to showcase Qatar’s vibrant arts and cultural heritage to a global audience. This initiative is part of Qatar Museums’ broader efforts to expand and share the country’s cultural richness.
This announcement follows the success of the Art for Tomorrow conference held in Venice, Italy, where Qatar Museums was a founding supporter, and Qatar Airways acted as a headline sponsor. During the conference, Qatar Airways CEO Badr Al Meer also announced the resumption of daily flights between Doha and Venice, further strengthening the cultural and tourism ties between the two cities.
Sheikha Al Mayassa also revealed that Qatar Museums had signed a historic collaboration agreement with the Venice Municipality to foster future partnerships in the arts, culture, preservation, sports, and entertainment sectors. With the resumption of direct flights and the new cultural initiatives, Doha and Venice are now more connected than ever.
