Netflix and the House of Europe have launched a new initiative aimed at supporting Ukrainian filmmakers who have been displaced or adversely affected by the ongoing war in the region. The program will provide grants of €1,000 to talented creators to help them overcome financial barriers and progress with their work.
Grant Details
The grants can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
- the purchase or rental of equipment such as cameras, lighting, sound equipment and so on.
- to cover hotel accommodations and other expenses that may arise while working on a film project.
- to pay for subscriptions to online services, such as Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and other software.
- to cover fees for specialists, including translators, editors, script doctors, and other professionals.
Who is Eligible
The program is open to Ukrainiancitizens who have experience in the film industry and who worked full-time in the industry until 2022. Applicants should be over 18 years of age and should either be currently residing in Ukraine or have moved abroad in 2022. They should also have an individual entrepreneur or partner organization with an LLC or NGO.
Candidates must submit a convincing application along with a short text report. The program is aimed at screenwriters, producers, directors, camera operators, SFX, production designers, costume and makeup artists, video editing, sound design, OST, colorists, VFX, and CGI, from beginners to managers.
Success of the Initiative
Last year, Netflix supported 100 professionals with scholarships, provided more than 400 artists with access to online training, and awarded grants to 48 creative teams for script development and online sessions with international industry experts. The success of the initiative has prompted Netflix to expand its support to Ukrainian creators in partnership with the House of Europe.
The results of the competition will be announced on May 15. With this new initiative, talented Ukrainian filmmakers will have the opportunity to develop their skills, access new resources, and realize their creative visions, even in the midst of conflict and displacement. This is an important step towards supporting the cultural and artistic community in Ukraine and promoting the country’s film industry on the global stage.
