India Selects Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound as Official Oscar Entry

Date:

Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound has been chosen as India’s official entry for the International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards. The decision was announced by the Federation of Film of India (FFI) at an event in Kolkata, where the 12-member selection jury, led by filmmaker N Chandra, unanimously selected the film from a pool of 24 entries.

Starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, Homebound was praised for its compelling storytelling and exceptional performances, which set it apart from the competition. FFI President Firdausul Hasan expressed optimism, stating that the film “will carry India’s hopes to the Oscars” and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to showcasing the best of Indian cinema on the global stage.

Jury chairman N Chandra commented on the difficult selection process, noting that while there were many fine films, Homebound was consistently a step ahead. He highlighted its meticulous research and strong execution as key factors in the unanimous decision. The film’s selection marks a significant moment for Indian cinema, as it now embarks on the journey to compete for one of the most prestigious awards in the world.

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, recognize excellence in cinematic achievements as assessed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Homebound now faces the challenge of navigating the rigorous Oscar nomination process, with the hope of becoming one of the final five films to be nominated in its category.
