Over 200 residents of Agogo in Asante Akyem have received life-changing reconstructive surgeries, thanks to the collaboration between two non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Brogya Foundation and RESTORE Worldwide Inc. These organizations, dedicated to providing free medical care, partnered to offer hope and healing to individuals suffering from severe physical deformities caused by congenital conditions, trauma, or burns.
Restoring Hope Through Surgery
Last week, a team led by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Obeng, along with global volunteers from the RESTORE Foundation, performed intricate reconstructive procedures at the Agogo Asante Akyem Presbyterian Hospital. The surgeries not only addressed physical deformities but also helped patients regain confidence and a sense of normalcy, transforming their lives.
Lasting Impact on Lives
At a mini-durbar held before the surgeries, Nana Bediako Brogya Sarpong, founder of the Brogya Foundation and Dompiahene of Asante Akyem Agogo, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative.
“These surgeries are about more than physical healing; they are about restoring dignity and providing a brighter future for those who have long faced the challenges of visible deformities,” he remarked.
Dr. Paa-Ekow Hoyte Williams, Director of Medical Affairs at RESTORE Worldwide Foundation, described the project as a “tremendous relief” for patients and their families. He emphasized how the prohibitive cost of reconstructive surgeries often places them out of reach for those in need.
“By eliminating this financial barrier, the Brogya Foundation and RESTORE Worldwide are transforming lives and providing essential medical services where they are needed most,” he noted.
Empowering Communities Through Care
This initiative not only provided physical transformation but also inspired hope for a brighter future for hundreds of individuals. By addressing the financial and logistical challenges often associated with reconstructive surgeries, Brogya Foundation and RESTORE Worldwide have shown how collaboration can create lasting change in underserved communities.
