Brazilian President Lula da Silva Cancels BRICS Summit Trip

Date:

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva suffered a head injury following a fall on October 20, resulting in a moderate haemorrhage, according to his doctor, Roberto Kalil Filho.

Speaking to GloboNews, Filho described the injury as serious, stating that the president experienced “a small cerebral haemorrhage in his forehead.”

He further warned that the haemorrhage could worsen in the coming days, and confirmed that Lula will remain under close medical observation.

According to G1, the Brazilian leader was hospitalized with a wound at the back of his head and received five stitches before being discharged to recover at his residence.

Due to medical advice to avoid long flights for several days, Lula da Silva cancelled his planned trip to the BRICS summit in Kazan, scheduled for October 22-24. Instead, he will attend the summit via video conference.

In response, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry announced that top diplomat Mauro Vieira would lead Brazil’s delegation at the BRICS summit.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed speculation about the simultaneous absence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lula from the BRICS and G20 summits.

The president’s health is being closely monitored, and further updates are expected in soon.
