In Kiev opened the labyrinth of media literacy “not a belief – check”

Date:

On October 6, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, together with the Council of International Scientific Research and exchanges (IREX), opened an interactive “not a faith-Check” labyrinth in Kyiv to raise media literacy within the framework of the “dream and act” project funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

“Today media literacy is closely related to human security. In a war, the ability to filter news can save someone’s life. The aim of ICIP is to teach Ukrainians to distinguish the truth from the truth and to identify facia, and not to give any chance of misinformation,” Taras Shevchenko, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine said.

The “not a believer – a check” labyrinth is the first in Ukraine to be placed in different parts of Ukraine and raise the level of media literacy of visitors. Using real-world scenarios and tasks, visitors can gain practical knowledge and security skills in the information space. All who visit the labyrinth can interact with the elements. For example, at one of the locations, the viewer first sees only a statement on the board, and lifting it up is a correct answer, whether it is a judgment or a fact.

The labyrinth rooms (thematic blocks) are designed to help participants acquire the competence of information and media literacy and to improve skills of critical perception of information, resistance to external and internal influences and propaganda, to recognize attempts to manipulate information and emotions and to distinguish facts from judgments.
All of this is necessary to be well-informed, demanding and active citizens, able to resist manipulation of propaganda and disinformation, which in turn will contribute to a more cohesive and stable Ukraine.

Also among the speakers of the event are: Marina Popatenko, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine; Marina Honda, Deputy Chairman of the KCSA on the exercise of self-governing powers; Yulia Tkachuk, Deputy Director of the program “dream and act”, Council of International Scientific Research and exchanges (IREX).
