South Africa Cricket Team Secures Record-Breaking Test Victory Over Bangladesh

Date:

South Africa Cricket team achieved a historic win over Bangladesh, marking their largest-ever Test victory by an innings and 273 runs in Chattogram.

With this resounding win, secured within three days, the Proteas surpassed their previous record against Bangladesh (set in 2017 by 19 runs).

It bolstered their chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship final.

The match began with Bangladesh in a challenging position, starting day three at 38-4 in their first innings.

The hosts struggled to gain momentum, slipping further to 48-8 before a determined ninth-wicket partnership between Mominul Haque and Taijul Islam added 103 runs.

This partnership brought their total to 159, with South African pacer Kagiso Rabada taking an impressive 5-37.

South Africa quickly enforced the follow-on, and the Bangladesh side, unable to withstand the South African attack, folded for 143 in just 43.4 overs.

Left-arm spinners Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy led the charge in the second innings, claiming 5-59 and 4-45, respectively, to secure the 2-0 series win for South Africa.

Reflecting on the game, South Africa’s captain Aiden Markram expressed his pride: “I am incredibly proud – that was special. Qualifying for the World Test Championship final is a long way away, but to be in the mix is what’s driving us.”

With this win, South Africa moves up to fourth place in the World Test Championship standings.

South Africa Cricket team upcoming home series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan present further opportunities for the Proteas, as three victories and a draw could be enough to secure them a spot in the June final at Lord’s, depending on other series outcomes.
