Romanian resident Daniel Nita made headlines by celebrating Bitcoin Pizza Day in a unique and generous way. He decided to commemorate the historical event of Bitcoin’s first usage as a means of payment by purchasing a whopping 10,000 pizzas with 1.01 bitcoins. Nita proudly shared the news on Twitter, attracting the attention of crypto enthusiasts worldwide.

Massive Charity Event Creates Buzz

Nita’s extraordinary act of generosity didn’t go unnoticed. By spending approximately $2.7 per bitcoin, or $26.8 per BTC, Nita made sure to spread joy to the people of Bucharest. The pizzas were distributed to individuals on the streets of the city, turning the occasion into a remarkable charity event. Local media outlets have already speculated that this extraordinary gesture could potentially secure a place in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest charity event ever.

For the transaction, Nita opted to use Binance Pay, a popular cryptocurrency payment service. This choice caught the attention of Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, one of the world’s most renowned cryptocurrency exchanges. Impressed by the scale of Nita’s pizza purchase. Zhao wrote on Twitter, “That’s a lot of pizza, now I’m thinking about it. I think I’ll have pizza when I’m in Romania again.”

Bitcoin Pizza Day: A Significant Milestone in Crypto History

Bitcoin Pizza Day holds immense significance within the cryptocurrency community. On May 22, 2010, Laszlo Hanyecz, a programmer from Florida, made history by purchasing two pizzas from Papa John’s for a total of 10,000 bitcoins. At the time, the transaction cost him around $41, but with the astronomical rise in Bitcoin’s value, those bitcoins are now worth over $268 million in 2023.

Each year, the cryptocurrency community commemorates Bitcoin Pizza Day with great enthusiasm. Industry companies, like WhiteSwap, a decentralized crypto exchange, organize various activities to engage their customers. For instance, WhiteSwap recently held a contest, awarding five WSD tokens to customers who shared the most creative photos of their pizzas. WhiteSwap is part of the ecosystem of WhiteBIT, one of Europe’s largest centralized crypto exchanges originating from Ukraine.
