Kenya: Super Metro Bans Loud Music From All Its Matatus

Date:

On Tuesday, April 25, the well-known Nairobi matatu transportation company Super Metro declared a ban on loud music in all of its cars.

The business also issued a severe warning to drivers who disobeyed the order in an internal document.

A spokeswoman from the well-known sacco told Kenyans.co.ke that the decision was made as a result of several consumer complaints.

“Due to increasing complaints due to loud music in our fleets, any vehicle caught and/or reported to be playing loud music on any of our routes will lead to the bus driver being summoned to answer a disciplinary case.

“Furthermore, the driver must surrender the flash disk upon arrival at the next stage,” the memo reads in part.

The company also stated that senior citizens were the most affected.

“We acted out of public interest and many of our clients do not appreciate the loud music. Some of our passengers are aged and sick and the loud music negatively affects them,” the management explained its drastic decision.

The insider also said that moving forward, only approved music that doesn’t disturb anyone would be permitted to be played by drivers.

Regarding passengers who prefer loud music while in transit, Super Metro firmly maintained that, “We run a transport business, not the entertainment industry.”

Even though there are other matatu Saccos in Nairobi, Super Metro has a devoted client base that results in people waiting in line to board their matatu.
