Joe Sang appointed as Kenya Pipeline Boss

Date:

The Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) on Tuesday, April 25, appointed Joe Sang as the Managing Director on a four-year contract.

Prior to his elevation being approved, Sang returned to KPC in January 2023 and served as the interim managing director.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Joe Sang as the Managing Director emerging top in the just concluded recruitment process,” KPC Chairperson Faith Bett Boinett stated.

Between 2016 to 2018, he served as the Managing Director of KPC, however, he was forced to quit due to charges of corruption.

Following a petition brought by the Law Society of Kenya, the High Court temporarily prohibited his nomination as the KPC chief in February 2023.

As the empty post was not publicized, the LSK claimed Sang’s appointment as the acting MD was unconstitutional.

Sang, on the other side, received accolades for successfully turning around KPC while functioning as MD by increasing earnings and elevating strong worker morale, motivation, and high productivity.

“The KPC board anticipates that Sang will continue to lead the organisation to surpass its former stellar performance.

“Joe has been instrumental in implementing the Company’s strategy that has seen KPC grow its revenue portfolio and evolve from being primarily an oil company to a multi-venture oil gas company firmly in Fiber Optic Cabling (FOC), Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution and sectoral training through its Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas (MIOG), among others,” read part of the statement.

Sang takes over Macharia Irungu after KPC declined to renew his three-year tenure.

Sang graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a certificate in strategic management.

He is also a member of the Institute of Public Certified Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

“The KPC Board, Management, and staff wish Sang success in this noble assignment,” KPC Chairperson concluded.
