Zimbabwe to export citrus to China in July

Date:

According to the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe on Wednesday, Zimbabwe’s citrus exporters are collaborating with Chinese officials to make it easier to sell citrus fruits to China.

The first cargo of citrus from the southern African nation will leave next month.

The list of registered Zimbabwean orchards and packing facilities authorised to export citrus to China was made public on June 1 by the General Administration of Customs of China. Six citrus pack houses and eleven citrus plantations in Zimbabwe have been chosen to participate in citrus exports to China.

In order to allow Zimbabwean businesses to sell fruit to China, one of Zimbabwe’s main export destinations, the two countries inked a citrus protocol last year.

According to the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, China purchased agricultural goods worth 657 million US dollars from Zimbabwe in 2022, an increase of 22.64 percent compared to the previous year.

Overall commerce between the two nations increased 29.2% year over year in 2022, reaching a new high of $2.43 billion.
