In recent years, Ukraine has become an important supplier of organic products to the EU. Total export in 2021 amounted to $222 million. In the same year, Ukraine took 5th place in the world out of 126 countries in terms of organic products imports to the EU. More than 80 types of Ukrainian products were exported to 30 countries. This was told by First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky during a speech at the opening of the international trade exhibition of organic products «Biofach – 2023».
Despite the full-scale war, in 2022 Ukraine exported 225 814 tons of organic products to the EU and Switzerland, which is 13% more than in 2021. This reflects the exceptional efforts of the participants in the organic sector of Ukraine and their international partners, in particular, efforts to promote export support by solving the pressing problems of Ukrainian exporters of organic products and constant lobbying at the political level and in the international arena», – said Taras Vysotsky.
He added that despite the fact that the organic sector, like the entire agricultural industry, suffers from war, Ukraine already needs a complete restructuring and integration into the European community. «In parallel with the introduction of national legislation, we are working on its adaptation in accordance with the new EU regulation in the field of organic production, handling and labeling of organic products», – said the First Deputy Minister.
He said that the organic sector continued to work closely with international partners. The European Commission abolished import tariffs and quotas on goods from Ukraine and suspended additional controls applied to organic products from Ukraine since 2015.
At the same time, in connection with the adoption of the Commission’s Delegated Regulation (EC) 2022/1450 on the use of inorganic protein feed in organic animal husbandry due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to the EU countries and the European Commission with an assurance about the ability of Ukrainian organic producers to perform their exports. Commitment to supply organic protein feed to EU countries between 2022 and 2023. In addition, Taras Vysotsky stressed that cooperation with European partners is being carried out to solve logistical problems.
