Ukrainian entrepreneur Igor Stefurak has developed a Chrome plugin with the help of ChatGPT. Stefurak’s plugin enables users to interact with ChatGPT from any text window on any website using the /ai command. The idea behind the plugin is to provide users with easy access to the chatbot’s capabilities without having to open a separate website and copy and paste answers.
The Plugin’s Development with ChatGPT
According to Stefurak, he had the idea for the plugin, but he lacked the coding skills to create it himself. However, he had read that ChatGPT was good with JavaScript and decided to experiment. Stefurak asked the chatbot to write the code for a Chrome extension that would replace text with emojis when the Enter key was pressed. In response, ChatGPT provided three files: a manifesto required for the plugin to work in Chrome, and two files with code. It also gave instructions on how to run the code in the browser.
ChatGPT acted not only as a programmer but also as a technical co-founder of the project. The chatbot optimized the code and provided advice to Stefurak. The entrepreneur communicated with the bot, asking it to edit the code according to his vision of the product’s functions and optimize certain parts of the code.
Advantages of Working with ChatGPT
Stefurak has praised ChatGPT’s speed and versatility. The chatbot was able to provide the working code as soon as a request was sent. Moreover, the bot could not only write code but also create a privacy policy for the website, prepare questions for a Google questionnaire to be published on the web page, and offer product description options for Product Hunt. He only needed to check and edit the bot’s output.
Drawbacks of Working with ChatGPT
Stefurak did encounter some difficulties when working with ChatGPT. He was not familiar with the new version of the Chrome Extensions Manifesto, which differs from the previous ones, and he had to remind ChatGPT that the code should be written for this new version. Additionally, the chatbot occasionally struggled to understand Stefurak’s requests.
The entrepreneur revealed that he had received pre-orders for early access, totaling $1000, before the plugin’s launch. The plugin passed Google’s verification process on March 23, 2022, and Stefurak began selling it.
Overall, Stefurak is satisfied with the outcome of his collaboration with ChatGPT. The /ai Chrome extension has received positive feedback from users, who appreciate the ease of use and accessibility that it provides. Stefurak’s experience with ChatGPT demonstrates how AI language models can assist entrepreneurs and programmers to bring their ideas to life without requiring extensive coding knowledge.
