Ukraine and North Macedonia extended the agreement on free trade

The updated Agreement gives Ukraine access to the market of products of animal origin and finished products of Macedonia and will strengthen the position of Ukrainian producers in European and global chains of added value, noted Deputy Minister of Economy – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka, who headed the Ukrainian negotiating team during the preparation of the document.


“The updated agreement with North Macedonia is another step towards greater integration of Ukrainian producers into European and transregional value added chains and Ukraine’s transition to an export-oriented economy with high added value. From now on, the market of North Macedonia is open to more groups of Ukrainian agricultural products. In addition, Ukrainian manufacturers of industrial products will be able to use components produced in Macedonia for products that will be sold in the EU. It is also important that through the Regional Convention on Pan-Euro-Mediterranean Preferential Rules of Origin (Pan-Euro-Med), the markets of Ukraine and Macedonia are integrated with the markets of the EU and other countries,” said Taras Kachka.


According to the updated Agreement, access to the market of North Macedonia will be opened for beef and pork, chicken meat and offal fresh, chilled and frozen, milk, cream and butter, barley, corn, oil, sugar, confectionery , jam, jams. The market is also open for mineral water, vinegar, walnuts, cereal grains, malt extracts, ready-made products based on coffee essences and concentrates, ice cream, food mixes or products made from animal or vegetable fats, canned meat products, etc. .


The Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of North Macedonia and Ukraine was signed in 2001.
In 2021, the volume of Ukrainian exports of goods to North Macedonia amounted to $120.1 million, imports – $22.2 million. In 9 months of 2022, exports amounted to $63.7 million, imports – $21.7 million.
