UAE and Indonesia Strengthen Bilateral Relations with Landmark Agreements

On Saturday, President Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Abu Dhabi for a state visit that marked a significant milestone in the relations between the UAE and Indonesia. The leaders convened at Qasr Al Watan to discuss opportunities for strengthening their decades-long partnership and signed agreements aimed at fostering cooperation in vital sectors.

Expanding Bilateral Co-operation
The agreements cover a broad spectrum of areas, including:

  • Technology
  • Renewable energy
  • Health care
  • Tourism and culture
  • Mining
  • Infrastructure
  • Government modernization
  • Investments
  • International shipping

Sheikh Mohamed expressed optimism about the future of this collaboration, emphasizing the enduring friendship between the two nations. Key discussions also focused on food security, climate action, sustainable agriculture, and education.

A Commitment to Global Peace and Stability
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to addressing global challenges through multilateral efforts, promoting peace, and resolving crises via peaceful means. President Subianto extended his gratitude for the warm hospitality and highlighted the importance of this collaboration.

A Warm Welcome for President Subianto
Upon his arrival, President Subianto was greeted with an elaborate Emirati cultural welcome, which included a military jet escort, a procession of camel and Arabian horse riders, traditional performances, and a 21-gun artillery salute. The Emirati children waving the flags of both nations added a heartwarming touch to the event.

A History of Strong Ties
The UAE and Indonesia have a long-standing relationship, which has grown significantly since the visit of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan to Indonesia in 1990. Recent years have seen a surge in trade, with non-oil trade rising to $4 billion. A previous agreement to increase trade to $10 billion within five years underscores the growing economic partnership.

In 2023, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed highlighted the strategic collaboration between the two nations in sectors like renewable energy, tourism, and artificial intelligence. In July, Indonesia’s former president Joko Widodo was honored with the prestigious Order of Zayed for strengthening UAE-Indonesian relations.

A Promising Future
This state visit by President Subianto underscores the mutual commitment of the UAE and Indonesia to deepen their ties and collaborate on projects that align with both nations’ visions for sustainable growth.

Stay tuned for more updates on international partnerships shaping the future.
