Turkey is keeping a close eye on the evolving dynamics within BRICS, the economic alliance comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed this in a recent interview with a Turkish television channel, noting a surge in interest from countries eager to join the bloc.
“We see that there is great interest from countries to join BRICS. We are closely monitoring this, maintaining contact with them, and assessing the next growth strategy,” Fidan said.
He added that in an era of expanding economic partnerships, BRICS is attracting increasing attention.
This comes as Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov recently stated that 34 countries have expressed interest in cooperating with BRICS in various capacities, including full membership.
Ushakov also highlighted that the upcoming BRICS summit, scheduled for October 22-24 in the Russian city of Kazan, will be the largest foreign policy event ever held in Russia.
Turkey has formally applied for full-scale participation in BRICS, a move currently under consideration.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will attend the summit, further cementing Turkey’s growing engagement with the influential economic bloc.
