Nigerian track and field runner and the world record holder for 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan has been nominated for the 2023 Laureus World Sports Award. She is the first Nigerian to be nominated for the award.
Tobi Amusan made history in 2022 when she won the 100-meter hurdles semifinal race at the World Championships in Oregon in an astounding record of 12.12 seconds, becoming Nigeria’s first World Record (WR) holder in any track and field event.
As the sprinter won the World Championship in the final, she also became the first outdoor World Champion from Nigeria. She ran to a time of 12.06s (2.6m/s), which is even more astounding.
Tobi Amusan added further Commonwealth and Diamond League championships to her resume, extending her impressive streak of performance. To successfully defend both championships, she sprinted to the record-breaking timings of 12.30 seconds for the games and 12.29 seconds for the meeting.
