Thunes Expands Real-Time Cross-Border Payments to Saudi Arabia

Date:

Thunes has announced the rollout of real-time cross-border payments into Saudi Arabia, marking a major step in supporting the Kingdom’s financial transformation under Vision 2030. Through its Direct Global Network, Thunes’ members can now deliver instant payouts directly to bank accounts and wallets in Saudi Riyals (SAR), cutting down transaction time and boosting transparency for both individuals and businesses.

The expansion comes at a time when the value of remittances into Saudi Arabia is expected to reach $232 billion in 2025, reflecting rising digital adoption and transaction volumes. Research from Thunes’ 2025 Money Without Borders report shows that 65% of expatriates rank speed as the most critical factor in sending money abroad. By connecting directly with the Saudi banking network, Thunes ensures faster, more cost-efficient, and more secure transfers compared to traditional methods.

The rollout is particularly significant for overseas businesses managing Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages, enabling seamless and quick settlement of fees for millions of pilgrims each year. Ahmad Yaacoub, VP MENA and Country Head for Saudi Arabia, emphasized that demand for faster and more reliable cross-border payments has surged in line with the Kingdom’s rapid digital transformation.

Thunes executives highlighted that real-time capabilities are no longer a luxury but a necessity in global payments. With this launch, the company strengthens its position as a leader in cross-border financial technology while supporting financial inclusion and enabling broader participation in the global economy.
