The largest international exhibition of organic food products Biofax 2023 has started its work

On February 14, 2023, the exhibition of organic foodstuffs «BioFax 2023» was opened in Nuremberg (Germany)

Every year the exhibition brings together thousands of participants and exhibitors from different parts of the world. Ukrainian manufacturers at this event for the tenth time present their organic products. Thus, Ukraine at the exhibition is represented by a large-scale National Pavilion with a total area of 188 m2, where its products are exhibited by 23 participating companies.

First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky delivered a congratulatory speech from Minagropolity at the opening of the National Pavilion. In addition, the participation of First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky in the events that will be held within the framework of the exhibition: BioFach Congress Session «Recent Changes in Organic Policy in the Regions of Central and Eastern Europe» and the Conference «Ukraine: Year After War – The Innovative Power of Organic Farmers and Global Support Strategies», as well as bilateral meetings with representatives of the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Switzerland and the European Commission.

Ukraine needs to present itself internationally and build long-term partnerships with representatives of different countries, international organizations, and organic market participants. This is crucial to strengthen Ukraine’s position as a reliable producer and exporter of organic products, despite the challenges of the ongoing war.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion of the territory of Ukraine, the organic production sector in Ukraine was actively developing: the area of land occupied under organic production increased (from 289 thousand. ha in 2017 to 422 thousand. ha in 2021)The number of organic producers grew (from 504 operators in 2017 to 528 operators in 2021).

In recent years, Ukraine confidently was among the top 5 largest suppliers of organic products in the EU. In particular, in 2021, it ranked 5th out of 126 countries worldwide in terms of organic imports to the EU, accounting for 6.6 per cent of total EU organic imports. Thus, for 2021,190 thousand tons of Ukrainian organic products were imported into the EU in the amount of about 160 million U.S. dollars.

Faced with extremely difficult circumstances, the Ukrainian organic sector continues to work and demonstrate its achievements. Thus, during 2022 Ukraine exported 225.8 thousand tons of organic products to the EU and Switzerland, i.e. 13% more than in 2021.
