Tanzania has launched a public-private partnership (PPP) initiative, aiming to raise approximately 25 trillion Tanzanian shillings ($9 billion) for its infrastructure and development projects across the country.
Spearheaded by the Tanzania public-private partnership Center (PPPC), the initiative includes over 84 ongoing projects across multiple sectors.
According to PPPC Executive Director David Kafulila, these projects are at various stages of development, including agreement negotiations, feasibility studies, evaluation, procurement, and concept design.
Kafulila highlighted key projects, such as the $340 million Kibaha-Chalinze road and a $1 billion investment in new ring roads, both of which are advancing well.
The extensive project portfolio covers a range of sectors: transportation, public works, energy, fisheries, health, tourism, and water resources.
One flagship effort, the Dar es Salaam Development Corporation project, will see the construction of a $37 billion modern commercial complex in Dar es Salaam’s dynamic Kariakoo district.
In addition, the Tanzania Railways Corporation is undertaking feasibility studies for a new rail link connecting Kariakoo with Mlimani City and Tegeta, a development expected to improve connectivity within the city.
Kafulila emphasized the importance of adherence to regulatory frameworks to ensure project longevity and sustainability.
He also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s reforms, attributing Tanzania’s rising trade and investment over the past three years to her administration’s pro-business policies.
