Strengthening Trade Ties: Ghana Opens a Trade House in Nairobi

Date:

Ghana opened a Trade House in Nairobi, taking a significant step towards enhancing trade relations with Kenya. The trade center, located at Sameer Business Park along Mombasa road, will serve as a hub for promoting Ghanaian products to businesses and the general public in Kenya and beyond.

The Ghana Trade House was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, accompanied by a four-day expo held at Sarit Centre in Westlands. This expo marks a crucial milestone for Ghana as it seeks to explore opportunities in the East African market, particularly under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The primary objective of the four-day event is to facilitate the entry of Ghanaian businesses into the East African market.

Strengthening Trade Objectives within Africa

Afua Asebea, the CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority emphasized the role of Trade House in furthering Ghana’s trade objectives and strengthening ties with other African countries and the importance of expanding Ghana’s footprint on the continent and enhancing trade relations within Africa.

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nairobi, Damptey Bediako underlined the Ghana Trade House’s role as a one-stop shop outlet for promoting Made-in-Ghana products in East Africa. The center will showcase a diverse range of Ghanaian products to businesses, the general public, and beyond, thereby increasing their visibility and market access.

Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry in Ghana emphasized the need to reduce reliance on trade with other continents and seize the abundant opportunities for intra-African trade. Asiamah-Adjei expressed Ghana’s readiness to engage in serious business with Kenya, highlighting the expo’s significance in promoting Ghanaian products and strengthening trade relations between the two countries.

Platform for Collaboration

The expo features the participation of 70 Ghanaian and 20 Kenyan businesses representing various sectors, including agro-processing, beverages, cosmetics, ceramics, garments, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. This expo serves as a vital platform for networking, collaboration, and discussions aimed at enhancing trade ties between Ghana and Kenya. The event provides an opportunity for businesses from both countries to explore avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.

The establishment of the Ghana Trade House in Nairobi marks a positive development in Ghana’s pursuit of trade expansion and economic integration within Africa. By leveraging the opportunities presented by the AfCFTA, Ghana aims to strengthen its trade relationships with Kenya and other African nations. The trade center will stimulate promoting Ghanaian products and fostering closer trade ties within the continent, driving economic growth and prosperity for both Ghana and Kenya.
