Saudi Arabia and France Push for Unified Palestinian Authority and Peace Mission

Date:

In a joint communique issued after a high-level conference at the United Nations, Saudi Arabia and France have pledged their support for a unified Palestinian authority and the deployment of a temporary international stabilization mission. The conference, co-chaired by the two nations in New York, focused on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question and the implementation of the two-state solution.

The joint statement emphasized the need to strengthen Palestinian police and security forces through existing international programs. It also welcomed the Palestinian Authority’s policy of “one state, one government, one law, and one weapon” and called for the disarmament of Hamas under international supervision.

The conference produced the “New York Declaration,” which was endorsed by 142 UN member states, underscoring a global commitment to the two-state solution as an irreversible path to peace. Amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the communique demanded a permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and unobstructed humanitarian aid.

Saudi Arabia and France also welcomed the recent recognition of Palestine by several countries and urged others to follow suit. The statement reaffirmed that an independent, democratic, and economically viable Palestinian state must coexist peacefully alongside Israel. It also called on Israel to halt settlement activity and warned that any annexation would be a “red line” with severe consequences.
