Rwanda: Kagame in Benin for Two-Day State Visit

Date:

President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame have arrived in Cotonou, Benin for a two-day State Visit to discuss bilateral ties.

In Cotonou, Kagame is due to meet with host President Patrice Talon, followed by bilateral sessions with various delegations, before delivering a joint news conference at Benin’s Presidency’s Le Palais de la Marina.

The Head of State will explore the Esplanade de l’Amazone plaza, which is home to a spectacular statue of a warrior woman, La Statue de l’Amazone – The Amazon Monument, which represents the fortitude, bravery, and patriotism of Beninese women past and present.

Kagame and the First Lady will also pay respect to dead Beninese heroes, especially the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price in the continuing war against terrorism, at Les Jardins de Mathieu, named for former Benin President Mathieu Kérékou.

Kagame will meet with 100 young entrepreneurs in Sèmè City, Benin’s flagship project aimed to fulfill the skills requirements of young Africans via training, research, and innovation.

Kagame’s visit to Benin comes at a time when Rwanda and Benin have beneficial collaboration in ICT, commerce, urban planning, and land management, and have previously inked a visa waiver agreement as well as a cooperation agreement in granite and marble mining.

More agreements on double taxation avoidance, digitization, agriculture, local government, sustainable development, and renewed trade and economic cooperation agreements will be inked during the visit.
