Russia, India to Focus on Innovation in Strategic Cooperation, Says Deputy Minister

Date:

Russian Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Alexey Gruzdev announced that innovation will be the “key element” in future cooperation between Russia and India, signaling a strategic shift beyond traditional commodity trade. Speaking at the Foreign Partners Forum held from November 12–14, 2025, Gruzdev emphasized that the deepening partnership will concentrate on cutting-edge, non-military technological sectors to build long-term, resilient economic ties between the two BRICS nations.

Key areas targeted for enhanced collaboration include diversified energy, specifically joint projects in solar, wind, and nuclear energy. Additionally, the cooperation will prioritize transportation technology, focusing on the development and implementation of driverless vehicles and alternative fuel systems. In the healthcare sector, the focus will be on sharing expertise in vaccine research and cell engineering. This pivot reflects Russia’s strategy to re-orient its technological exports and partnerships eastward amid Western sanctions.

While the commitment to innovation is strong, the realization of these goals remains contingent on navigating complex logistical and financial hurdles. The effort to deepen technological collaborations in these diversified areas is crucial for both countries, helping Russia secure new markets for its science and allowing India to access advanced expertise necessary for its own rapid technological modernization.
