Russia Foreign Ministry Says Pragmatic Towards New US Administration, Proceeds by National Interests

Date:

The Russian Foreign Ministry has commented on its approach towards the new US administration, pointing out that it is well-acquainted with the new US President and Congress; nevertheless, it is standing on the soil of sober expectations. The view of Russia concerning relations with the United States testifies to a commitment to follow the line of balance between cooperation and protection of national interests in an uptight way.

Anyway, the Russian Foreign Ministry made clear that Russia would interact pragmatically with the new administration, notwithstanding tensions and ideological differences. The position of the Ministry underlines that for Russia, the substantive vector in foreign policy does not change with whoever administration may be coming into the White House. Without harboring any “illusions” regarding the possibility of U.S. foreign policy vectors, Russian authorities outline the determination for a firm stance on issues touching upon the country’s sovereignty, security, and strategic priorities.

The Evolution of US-Russia Relations and Future Dynamics

The Foreign Ministry comments reflect the greater Russian attitude toward foreign relations management in light of historic challenges and changes in geopolitical dynamics. In that regard, the implication would appear to be that as long as Russia seeks to take advantage of any opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation with the U.S., its number one priority is in defending its national interests.
