RTA Completes Al Jamayel Street Development Project in Dubai
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has proudly announced the completion of the Al Jamayel Street Development Project, formerly known as Garn Al Sabkha Street. This massive undertaking marks a significant improvement in Dubai’s infrastructure, creating smoother traffic flow and connecting key regions across the city.
A Vital Link in Dubai’s Transport Network
The newly developed Al Jamayel Street serves as a crucial corridor linking Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road through First Al Khail Road and Al Asayel Street. Spanning a total of seven kilometers, the street features four lanes in each direction, accommodating a traffic capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour.
This major arterial road caters to some of Dubai’s most prominent residential and commercial hubs, including:
- Jumeirah Lakes Towers
- The Gardens
- Al Furjan
- Discovery Gardens
- Jumeirah Golf Estates
- Jumeirah Islands
These areas host a population of over 250,000 residents, enhancing the road’s importance for the region’s connectivity.
Travel Time Reduction
The project has significantly improved travel efficiency. According to His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, the project has:
- Reduced peak travel time from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road heading toward Al Qusais and Deira by 40% (from 20 minutes to 12 minutes).
- Cut travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street toward Jebel Ali Port by an impressive 70% (from 21 minutes to just 7 minutes).
The development includes four state-of-the-art bridges, each serving a specific purpose to streamline traffic flow:
- Bridge 1:
- Length: 666 meters
- Capacity: 3,200 vehicles per hour
- Facilitates traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Jumeirah Golf Estates and Dubai Production City.
- Bridge 2:
- Length: 601 meters
- Capacity: 3,200 vehicles per hour
- Eases eastward traffic from Al Jamayel Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
- Bridge 3:
- Length: 664 meters
- Capacity: 3,200 vehicles per hour
- Smooth traffic flows toward Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port.
- Bridge 4:
- Length: 943 meters
- Capacity: 8,000 vehicles per hour
- Links Al Jamayel Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, ensuring a seamless connection between Dubai’s key highways.
Part of a Broader Vision
The Al Jamayel Street Development is part of the RTA’s master plan to enhance Dubai’s east-west road corridors, including Al Yalayis Street and Expo Road. These projects aim to support current and future traffic volumes while facilitating various urban developments.
Conclusion
The completion of the Al Jamayel Street Development Project reflects RTA’s dedication to advancing Dubai’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. By improving connectivity, reducing travel times, and accommodating growing traffic needs, this project sets a benchmark for urban planning in the region.
