Renowned Ghanaian Architect David Adjaye Designs Multi-Faith Complex In Abu Dhabi

Date:

Popular Ghanaian architect David Adjaye has designed a new multi-faith complex in Abu Dhabi that was commissioned by the United Arab Emirates. It is the UAE’s first-ever purpose-built synagogue.

The “Abrahamic Family Home” mega-complex includes a mosque, church, and synagogue. Several architectural designs found in mosques, churches, and synagogues around the world are incorporated into the project.

The design combines numerous architectural forms found in mosques, cathedrals, and synagogues around the world. The architecture was created to emphasize the parallels between the Abrahamic religions.

The Imam Al-Tayeb Mosque, His Holiness Francis Church, and Moses Ben Maimon Synagogue are part of the multi-faith complex.

The synagogue is the UAE’s first specifically designed Jewish house of worship, and it, like most synagogues worldwide, points to Jerusalem.

According to David Adjaye, each structure is a cube 30 meters (98 feet) by 30 meters in size and is one-of-a-kind. The unifying principle serves as a common basis for promoting tolerance and understanding.

David Adjaye is well-known for designing landmark structures such as the National Museum of African American History and Culture in the United States.

He received recognition from the British government for his outstanding achievements, and he became the first African to get the Royal Gold Medal, as well as the first black architect to do so in the Royal Gold Medal’s 173-year history.
