Nigeria’s Cricket Team Maintains Perfect Record at ICC T20 Africa Qualifier

The Nigerian Male National Cricket Team, known as the Yellow-Green, showcased another stellar performance at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier C in Abuja. After a remarkable 118-run victory against St. Helena on Saturday, the team secured a historic 264-run win against Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday, cementing their position at the top of the points table with an impressive net run rate of 9.55.

Record-Breaking Performances on Day 2

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Nigeria’s top order delivered an extraordinary display. Selim Salau led the charge with a power-packed 112 off 53 balls, including 13 fours and 2 sixes. Sulaimon Runsewe contributed a solid 50 off 29, while Isaac Okpe dazzled with a blistering 65 off just 23 balls. These contributions powered Nigeria to a massive total of 271/4 in 20 overs.

Cote d’Ivoire’s debut in international cricket proved challenging as their bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 23 extras.

Nigeria’s Dominant Bowling

The Ivorian batting lineup crumbled under Nigeria’s fiery bowling attack. The Yellow-Green bowled out their opponents for just 7 runs in 7.3 overs—a record-breaking feat for Nigeria in international cricket.

Team Spirit and Focus on Improvement

Despite their dominant performances, the Nigerian captain, Sylvester Okpe, emphasized the importance of continuous improvement.

This is a team effort. While we’re thrilled with the wins, we aim to review our performance to address any errors. Kudos to the team for their collective spirit, said Okpe.

Building Global Recognition

The President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, Uyi Akpata, expressed pride in Nigeria hosting such a prestigious event and commended the team’s exceptional performance.

“This tournament has brought global attention to Nigeria’s cricket capabilities, showcasing our world-class facilities and talent,” Akpata stated.
