News about Poland’s refusal to support the protection of Ukrainian cultural property – fake

Date:

Recently, there was false information on social networks that Ukraine has applied to 7 countries for assistance in developing a plan for the preservation of cultural property, in particular works of art, It is alleged that the Polish Ministry of Culture was the only one to categorically refuse to participate in its development. And there was also false information that some «group is working in Lviv together with the ministerial delegations of other 5 countries and representatives of the Government of Ukraine to create a «bridge»which will be used to export cultural property to safe places of storage abroad». In addition, the Government of Poland allegedly blocked the possibility of transit through its territory of Ukrainian cultural property and therefore it is difficult to save them from robbery by Russia.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy denies all these fake news spread in social networks.

The Ministries of Ukraine and Poland are working closely to preserve the Ukrainian cultural heritage and to implement information policy. At the same time, Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko and Vice Premier – Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Pyotr Glinski constantly communicate on questions by phone and during meetings.

The last such meeting of ministers was held in Warsaw on 20 January. The topic was further cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the field of protection of cultural heritage in Ukraine and the activities of the Lublin Triangle Foundation on digitization of cultural heritage. The sides also discussed strengthening international cooperation in countering Russian propaganda.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy strongly condemns absurd false accusations of blocking the legal export or transport of works from Ukraine. After all, it is obvious that the works of Ukrainian collections are presented at exhibitions in Polish cultural institutions, incl. at the exhibition «Love and debt. January Uprising of 1863» in the Royal Castle in Warsaw, at the exhibition «Ukraine. Under another sky» in the Center of modern art in Uyazdov castle.
