Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attend Monday’s crucial peace summit in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to an Egyptian presidential spokesperson. The summit, titled the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit,” is being co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with the primary goal of solidifying the agreement to end the war in Gaza. The meeting is expected to gather leaders from over 20 countries and key international organizations.
The spokesperson confirmed that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will also participate, emphasizing that both leaders’ attendance aims to “reaffirm their commitment” to the peace agreement. The high-level talks are intended to secure the next steps in implementing the Gaza peace plan, with discussions expected to focus on the future governance and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, as well as providing massive humanitarian assistance to the war-torn enclave.
The summit follows the ceasefire deal, which took effect days prior and was brokered after intensive negotiations mediated by Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States. While the truce has held and the first phase—including an expected hostage and prisoner exchange—is underway, deep structural issues regarding post-war security and Hamas disarmament remain unresolved. The presence of both the Israeli and Palestinian Authority leaders at the event underscores the critical nature of the negotiations to ensure regional stability.
