Lamborghini Announces New Huracan Successor for 2024 Launch

Date:

The brand’s CEO, Stefan Winkelmann, has confirmed that a new Huracan successor is set to launch in late 2024. The car is set to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain, with Lamborghini’s CTO, Rouven Mohr, having confirmed the PHEV setup back in July 2022.

New and Improved Huracan on the Horizon

Winkelmann revealed the news during a press presentation, stating that the new Huracan will be available to consumers by the end of 2024. Although no details have been provided about the engine layout, the car possibly will feature a twin-turbo V8 engine. According to anonymous insider information, the powertrain will only engage the turbos once the engine reaches 7,000 rpm, and keep them spinning until the engine hits its 10,000 rpm redline. When outside of this rev range, the setup will reportedly operate as a naturally aspirated mill with hybrid assistance.

A Greener Future for Lamborghini

This announcement comes as Lamborghini showcases the Aventador’s replacement, which features a new 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine with plug-in hybrid assistance. The Aventador replacement’s V12 engine delivers 813 horsepower at 9,250 rpm and 535 pound-feet (725 Newton-meters) at 6,750 rpm. The redline is 9,500 rpm. The new engine sends its power exclusively to the rear wheels, with an electric motor incorporated into the eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic that can also power the back axle. Additionally, there’s a motor driving each front wheel, giving this setup a total output of over 1,000 hp.

Furthermore, Lamborghini is set to release a PHEV variant of the Urus, which will reportedly feature the powertrain from the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. According to reports, the tweaks from Lamborghini could push the car’s output as high as 820 hp, up from the current model’s 690 hp.

Lamborghini’s plans for a new Huracan successor and their move towards hybrid engines showcase the brand’s commitment to both innovation and sustainability. These developments are sure to excite fans of the brand, as they eagerly await the arrival of these exciting new models.
