Kenya is the world’s top TikTok user

Date:

Kenya tops the world in TikTok usage, according to the newly released Reuters Institute Digital News report 2023 poll.

According to the survey, 54% of TikTok usage in East Africa is focused on general purposes, while 29% is focused on news.

With 22% for news and 50% for general usage, South Africa takes the third position, followed by Thailand.

The survey also reveals that Facebook, which has long held the top rank, is losing momentum while TikTok is gaining ground in the delivery of news, particularly among younger viewers.

However, users of TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat, in stark contrast to Facebook and Twitter users, prefer to pay more attention to celebrities and social media influencers than media firms when it comes to News themes.

These traditional social networks continue to command the majority of attention and discourse.

Evidence suggests that in an effort to safeguard their mental health, audiences frequently skip stories that they perceive to be overly sad or anxiety-inducing.

TikTok continues to be the fastest-growing social network in terms of growth; 44% of its members are between the ages of 18 and 24.
