Iran’s Rise in the New World Order: A Vision for Global Engagement

Iran’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Abdolnaser Hemmati, highlighted the country’s expanding role in global affairs during his keynote speech at the 28th World Investment Conference of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) in Riyadh. He underscored how Iran’s growing influence in the new world order positions it as a key player in tackling global challenges and fostering international collaboration.

Strengthening Global Partnerships

Hemmati emphasized Iran’s strategic approach to building alliances through its participation in prominent international organizations, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, and close cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union. These partnerships, along with fostering regional collaboration with neighboring Persian Gulf countries, aim to create opportunities for joint investments and economic growth.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, by forming a national unity government and strengthening its position in international forums, has consistently pursued the groundwork for joint collaboration,” Hemmati said.

Harnessing Economic Potential Amid Global Challenges

Hemmati addressed the global economic landscape, pointing to unequal growth between emerging and advanced economies, trade tensions, and the slowdown of supply chains as pressing challenges. Despite these hurdles, he stressed the opportunities arising from these disruptions, particularly for countries with abundant resources and strategic positioning like Iran.

Iran’s economy boasts several strengths:

  • Vast natural, mineral, and energy resources
  • A young and educated population
  • Exceptional geopolitical location
  • A robust economic infrastructure network

These factors position Iran to make significant contributions to global economic development, technology transfer, and climate change mitigation.

Impact of Western Sanctions

Hemmati highlighted the far-reaching consequences of Western sanctions on Iran, emphasizing their detrimental impact not only on the Iranian economy but also on the broader regional and global economy. He called for a reevaluation of such measures, citing their adverse effects on international economic stability.

Iran’s Role in Shaping the Future of Global Investment

The WAIPA conference, held under the theme “Future-ready IPAs: Navigating Digital Disruption and Sustainable Growth,” brought together ministers, corporations, and investment promotion leaders from around the world. Hemmati’s speech positioned Iran as a critical player in driving sustainable growth and navigating global economic shifts.

Through partnerships, strategic resource utilization, and a commitment to global collaboration, Iran is poised to play an increasingly active role in addressing the world’s most pressing economic and environmental challenges.
