Acting Chief of Army Staff Orders Probe into Viral Video on Alleged Soldier Brutality in Abuja

The Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate investigation into a viral video allegedly depicting soldiers involved in an altercation with a man and a woman in the Abuja metropolis.

In a formal statement issued on Tuesday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Nigerian Army acknowledged the video circulating on social media platforms. The statement indicated that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, but the Acting COAS has expressed a firm commitment to uncovering the truth.

The Nigerian Army has been made aware of a viral audio-visual recording currently circulating on social media, allegedly showing a senior Army officer and two other soldiers in an altercation with a man and woman in Abuja, the statement said.

The Acting COAS has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the facts and ensure accountability. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to protecting law-abiding citizens and upholding the values enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Major General Nwachukwu reassured the public, stating, The Nigerian Army remains committed to serving and protecting all law-abiding Nigerians. Due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion regarding this matter.

This announcement highlights the Nigerian Army’s resolve to address allegations of misconduct and maintain public trust in its operations.
