India: Pre-order, published book not same: Penguin as Naravane book row escalates

Date:

Amid the political uproar over former Army chief General MM Naravane’s book Four Stars of Destiny, Penguin Random House India has issued a second clarification, seeking to address confusion over the status of the publication.

In its latest statement, Penguin said that an announced book, a book available for pre-order, and a published book are not the same. The publisher reiterated that a book is considered “published” only when it is formally released and made available for purchase across retail platforms.

The clarification was aimed at countering claims made during the controversy over whether the book had already been published. India Today was the first to report that the publisher had clarified that the book was not yet published.

Penguin said the distinction was being restated to ensure accuracy amid ongoing public and political debate surrounding the book’s content and status.
