Iran’s Golgohar Mining and Industrial Company has inaugurated a major new development phase for Gohar Park, a large-scale recreational and tourism project situated in the desert and mountainous region of Sirjan. This expansion is a key component of Iran’s broader economic strategy to boost eco-tourism and diversify its revenue streams away from traditional energy exports. The completed initial phase, which already included a massive artificial lake and a water park, established Gohar Park as one of the largest tourist villages in the country.
The new development focuses on providing eco-friendly lodging options, enhancing existing green spaces and walking paths, and introducing upgraded recreational and cultural zones designed to encourage longer stays and attract a wider range of regional and international visitors. Golgohar, primarily an industrial and mining giant, is strategically integrating environmental preservation with its tourism efforts by ensuring the park’s development maintains the ecological and visual integrity of the surrounding desert landscape. The project is expected to significantly strengthen the local economy of Sirjan, a major mining hub, by generating a substantial number of employment opportunities in hospitality, maintenance, and tourism services. The investment reflects a national trend of leveraging unique regional assets—such as desert landscapes and cultural heritage sites—to create new drivers for sustainable development and job creation.
