Ghana’s Foreign Minister speaks at Ghana’s 66th independence in Italy

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, visited Rome, Italy to promote trade and investment between Ghana and Italy. During Ghana’s 66th Independence Day celebration at the Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria hotel in Rome, she expressed her confidence in the government’s efforts to address the economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The minister emphasized President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s economy with programs such as Free Senior High School Education, One District One Factory, and Planting for Food and Jobs, leading to the country’s growth as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies for three consecutive years.

Promoting Ghana as an Investor-Friendly Environment

Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, Merene Botsio Benyah, encouraged Ghanaians to support the government’s programs and take advantage of Ghana’s conducive and investor-friendly business environment. The ambassador stated that the government’s initiatives aimed to add value to natural produce and creating employment and export opportunities. Ghana’s foreign missions abroad have a crucial role in identifying these opportunities and attracting investors for partnerships. Doing business in Ghana would also give investors access to approximately 1.3 billion people of the AfCFTA Member States.

Promoting Ghana’s Rich Culture and Heritage

The national day celebration brought together over 300 dignitaries from the host Italian Foreign Ministry, members of the diplomatic corps, international and Ghanaian companies, traditional leaders, businessmen, and the Ghanaian community. The event showcased Ghana’s rich culture and heritage, featuring various made-in-Ghana goods on display and Ghanaian companies in attendance. Dignitaries were treated to a display of Ghanaian cultural performances. The embassy expressed appreciation to Ghana International Bank, Zeepay, Sienna Services Ltd, EMH Global Ltd, Team Engineering, Flash Box Srl, Showbiz Global Concert, Ghana Export Import Bank, Urepa, Abici, Cartarredo, the Diplomatic Affairs TV show on Pan African Television, and others for making the event a success.

In overall, the government’s programs have positioned Ghana as a viable investment destination and a leader in industrialization and manufacturing in the region. The national day celebration served as a strategic platform to promote Ghana’s culture and heritage, attracting investors and creating mutually beneficial commercial partnerships with international companies.
