Ghana and Nigeria Shine at Windsor’s Multicultural Festival, Canada

Windsor’s annual multicultural festival witnessed a remarkable inclusion this year as the Ghanaian and Nigerian communities took part in the festivities. Ghana and Nigeria proudly represented in the Carrousel of Nations for the first time in the festival’s history. The addition of Ghana and Nigeria to the Carrousel of Nations marks a significant milestone, bringing their vibrant cultures to the forefront.

Showcasing the Rich Culture of Ghana and Nigeria

Zule Ankamah, the lead organizer for the Ghanaian village, expressed her joy at being able to present her home country’s culture in such a popular event. For her, it has been a dream come true to showcase Ghana’s rich resources that are often unknown to many. Windsor has seen an influx of Ghanaians from the Greater Toronto Area, particularly Brampton and Oakville, and this event provided an ideal platform to introduce Ghana to the wider community.

Nigerian Unity and Joyous Celebrations

The Nigerian carrousel village, hosted at the Nigerian Canadians for Cultural Educational and Economic Progress (NCCEEP) Centre, attracted visitors with its vibrant atmosphere. The village featured drum circles and cultural dances, inviting everyone to experience the joyous celebrations.

Abiola Afolabi, the Executive Director of NCCEEP, highlighted the diverse languages and cultures that exist within Nigeria. She emphasized that Nigerians are unified by their love for food, hospitality, and music. The village aimed to showcase these aspects and create a memorable experience for visitors. Afolabi expressed her hope that people who attended the village would walk away with a deeper understanding of Nigerian culture and the happiness and enjoyment that Nigerians embody.

In overall, the inclusion of the Ghanaian and Nigerian communities in Windsor’s annual multicultural festival has brought immense joy and cultural diversity to the event. The villages provided a platform to showcase the unique traditions, cuisine, and lively spirit of Ghana and Nigeria. Through this celebration, Windsor residents and visitors had the opportunity to appreciate and embrace the vibrant cultures of these African nations.
